A group of twenty young Cambodians from different backgrounds including legal students and outreach sector such as media students and NGOs which have been working on the issue of Khmer Rouge like TPO, Youth for Peace, YRDP, LAC, have been joining the Khmer Rouge Tribunal Fellowship backed by GIZ, German foundation.
According to the program, three week course has been conducted in Cambodia from 12 to 30 March, which will cover the issue of Khmer Rouge, how to deal with the past, reconciliation and international issue of German genocide of Nazi regime. Students will also have a two-week study tour in Germany in order to learn more about the reconciliation and visit historical places like museums in Germany, the program says.
According to the trainers of the program, this is the chance for young Cambodians who did not experience the brutal regime and atrocities in the past to start learning and getting to know about Khmer Rouge and it is as the sample of other young Cambodians who do not care about Khmer Rouge issue. The participants can also share what they have learnt to other people through their practice at their organization and transfer project after the completion of the course.
KRT Fellowship has been established since 2008 and the Civil Peace Service of GIZ provides experts and funds to NGOs and government institutions which support outreach for the ECCC and the active participation of Khmer Rouge victims in the trials as complainants or civil parties.
